The magic of silver clay
I don’t know much about silver clay (not like Gordon) but I have experimented with the stuff and it’s something special. The best bit is the 99.9% piece of silver you have when you’ve finished. Even better is that you only need a cheap blow torch to fire it not one of those kilns costing hundreds of pounds. Try eBay for silver clay kits. They’re about 50 pounds but well worth it. They come with everything you need and instructions.
I made a silver toggle finding. I was a bit worried that the silver wouldn’t be strong enough but it’s actually an excellent material for toggles and a great way to make your jewellery unique.
Using slip is very important for toggles. Use it to paint on for a smooth surface, or to attach pieces to each other, for example the loop to the bar. Make slip by collecting tiny dried pieces of clay, crunching them to dust and adding a tiny bit of water to form a paste. One drop of water does the trick. I will post some pictures of the toggle soon….
