I notice Jennifer says she’s using ‘fine’ silver wire. I tried this technique with ‘nontarnish’ — are these different things, or am I just not doing it right? Thanks very much.

I reckon it’s best to use sterling silver wire for this. Non tarnish wire is made out of a different material and you won’t achieve the same effect. I’m sure if you contact Jennifer through her site (click above) she would be happy to tel you more about it :-)

Ruth - thanks for the heads-up. I tried it again with the right stuff and it works like magic. Kate: your blog is a marvelous resource. Thank you for your generous work. And the same goes to Jennifer for that video clip. Cheers.

I am glad you sorted the problem out ok :-) Fantastic to hear you like the site, very encouraging!

Hey there Jennifer, I love your instructional videos, I’ve learned so much. I guess with pure silver wire there’s no firescale. If one were to do this with sterling, should one flux first?

All right, that is a nice beginning but i’ll have to explore that a tiny bit more. Will show you what more there really is.
