Sources of Inspiration

Posted in: The Journey
I love looking at other designers websites for inspiration and when I find pieces of jewellery I adore, I feel quite envious and wish I’d made it myself. I then go on to wonder, is it best to look at others work or simply create without observing other artist’s designs.

I have come to the conclusion that the answer is to do both. Look to others techniques and perhaps colour, but swap them round, re-arrange them and add your own twists. Perhaps decide on a theme that runs throughout your designs that will become unique to you. Mix two techniques together.

I don’t think I could say it better than Gordon -

“Be willing to learn the fundamentals. The more developed your repertoire the better you can express yourself. Carefully observe the leaders in the field and the people you admire and try to emulate their good traits. You can catch people’s attention by being different and developing your own unique look. Slowly build confidence backed by real experience. When you believe in yourself, others will too. Follow your bliss, have fun, and share your creations!”
