Repairs as a side business

Posted in: The Journey
I got to thinking today when I was at work about all the little repairs I do and how there may be some money to be made from it! Here are my ideas I jotted down about it…

You can easily subsidise your jewellery sales by doing repairs. You won’t believe the simple repairs people don’t think to do themselves. Closing a jump ring that has come open is a common one.
Services you could offer and possible prices:

- Closing/replacing jump rings/links £3 (excluding parts)
- Restringing bracelet £3.50-£5
- Restringing necklace £5-£10
- Soldering jobs £5 upwards
- New clasp - £3
- Extender chain added £3
- Earwire to ear clip change (or vice versa) £3

Most jewellers charge extortionate amounts for these services. Word will spread quickly especially if you’re local and run a regular stall/event.

doing this can build a business very quickly and makes you a promeniant comunity member especially nowdays. In this day and age small businesses with services like these make a huge differance in large cities.

You are right about jewellers - I have restrung so many faux pearls, I wish I had a penny for each one! Jewellers are very snobby about peoples treasured posessions - unless they’re gold and platinum and real pearls they won’t do the job!
