About

Posted in: The Journey
I am on a journey that I would like to share with other jewellery makers out there, and the journey is to make great jewellery and sell it! I’d ideally like to make a living from it if I can.

I have plans to find a niche, approach galleries and independent jewellery shops, visit a variety of bead shops and sites (which I will review) and teach myself new techniques which I will share with you!

I also would like to add plenty of links to other similar sites and forums to give us all creative inspiration. I also have plans to add interesting video tutorials that I comes across!

I understand the world isn’t short of jewellery designers but I hope to find the key to standing out and making a statement, while selling jewellery at the same time.

    Hi Kate,

I stumbled upon your site by accident just today. I’ve always loved nature’s amazing stones, and have just started making jewellery.

Your site is fabulous and has loads of great tips from someone who is further down the journey than I am. I just wanted to write and say thank you: first for putting the time in to ‘write up’ and share your knowledge, and for sharing your thoughts in a way that is easy to follow and attempt. It’s brilliant!

Very much appreciated. I’ll definitely check your blog regularly!

    All the best,

    Hi Kate
What a great blog! Full of interesting facts and tips, and the photos on the “how to” sections are really helpful. The semi-precious stones look wonderful too.
Where can I get really good quality findings for my jewellery? I am looking for sterling silver clasps and larger toggles etc for heavier pieces.
    Best wishes,
    Jill

    Hi Kate,

Just found yr video on youtube. I was so impressed with the way you explained making basic earrings, it was a lot simpler as opposed to other videos. I’m new to jewellery but like yourself, want to create my own unique styles.

All the best for your jewellery adventure

    Hi Kate,

I found your gemstone website today and also your blog. I have been looking for a gemstone supplier in the uk for some time so am glad to find your great site. I also wanted to say a big thank you for this blog and all the clear information you have included. I have wanted to make simple but beautiful jewellery using gemstones for a while but haven’t, until now, been able to find the clear, simple information I needed to get started. Thank you.

    All good wishes,
    Emma

    Hi Kate

I have in the last couple of days decided I want to make jewellery and have started researching on the net when I found your site. It is very interesting and informative and has given me a further boost to do this. Well done in all that you have achieved so far and good luck with your future. I will be checking back regularly.

Good luck in all you do.

    Hi Kate

I have now found someone who can maybe put me out of my misery! I have been searching the www for the last two months trying to learn about findings and things. I am now retired and have had an interest in making anything from wood and I am now making some pendants, bangles etc. from some of the beautiful exotic hardwoods I have collected over the years - but in searching the www I find a distinct lack of any info on ‘making wooden jewellery’ - is it not at all wanted?
I could, if you are at all interested, e-mail a photo of some I have prepared for finishing, once I have obtained the required findings, clasps etc. You may be able to suggest a way forward for me. It would be very much appreciated.
I look forward to your reply, kind regards.
    James Lowthian

    Hi Kate,
I am about to embark on jewellery making as a side-line to my holistics business. I thought it would be nice to display a few peices in my treatment room on the run up to Christmas!

    Hi Kate,
I happened to find your website when I was searching for Bluesteak Beads (which I found, and is another excellent website for jewellery makers). I took up making jewellery as a hobby since suffering a very nasty bout of anxiety and depression last year. My sister bought me some jewellery kits for Christmas and I have been “hooked” ever since!!! it is wonderful therapy for me and I have given away lots of pieces to my friends (who were extremely kind to me during that time. I love your ideas, and I wish I could buy some of your lovely jewellery. You have given me more inspiration and I will certainly keep your website on my “favourites”. Do you publish a newsletter?
thank you Kate, and I wish you all the very best with your jewellery adventure.
    Dorothy xx

  23. Mike Hardy Says:

Making jewellery seems to me to an ideal hobby/business for disabled folk like me. I had to give up paid work recently because of my chronic spinal disease and am looking for a hobby that I can do sitting down. I did stone tumbling and made necklaces years ago and really enjoyed it. Also, the products maybe suitable for selling on if the standard of work is good like yours is Kate.
Is there anyone out there who is physically disabled that has taken up jewellery making as a hobby and business?

    Cheers - Mike (York)

  32. Tommy Says:

    Hello Kate,
Very nice site! must be very useful for amateur beads lovers.

We are an Italian wholesale/retail beads and accessories site. Recently we have created an English version for our site therefore we are trying to get a name among european beads lovers.

I was wondering if you could review out site/add it to the link’s section.

our selection of items grows constantly (new special-design Murano beads (made in Italy) next month for example). We ask for no minimum order and shipping within europe is economic especially for middle-big orders.

If you want, we can send you some free samples (of the items you like).

Thank you for reading and giving us of your time :)
